Professional People Dodger

Last night, I left the office around 6pm, which is the worst time to leave in terms of traffic. Imagine spending 30 minutes in a cab that literally takes you 150 yards down the street. Knowing this, I decided it might be a good opportunity to see how long it would take me to walk from the office to my hotel. People told me not to do it, and that it would take me around 50 minutes, but I was feeling frisky, and I had a fully charged Ipod.

Being in China has certainly brought back my Asian roots. I know this because I have started listening to old school Korean music again, which is sad, but brings back so many fond memories of my youth. Zero fade, spikey hair with Dep level 10 gel, bleached bangs....yes, I had it all (the kpop craze dominated my jr. high and high school).

So why talk about my embarrassing and reemerging kpop roots? Because it's what I had loaded in my Ipod on my journey home last night (wow, I'm being very honest with my audience...all 4 of you). Bumping all the DJ DOC classics and being surrounded by a sea of Chinese people encouraged a little skip to my walk. I was literally walking at what I estimated at 4mph, ducking and dodging everything and everyone. About 15 minutes into my trek, I dubbed myself a "professional people dodger." I'd say this is something similar to what people call "racer vision" on the freeway, where you can guess where the congestion is, and make good snap judgment calls on lane choice.

So how long did it take me? Two cold ears, sweaty chest, and a blister later, it took me 35 minutes. I hope there's a future for me in people dodging.

My coworker will give me a Rain CD. I'll be sure to rip you a copy.
